Samford’s Darcy Nicholls named SoCon player of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Darcy Nicholls has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all competition from Jan. 28 – Feb.3. The selection is made by the league office.

Nicholls led Samford to a pair of wins last week against Southern Miss and South Alabama. In Saturday’s 6-0 win at Southern Miss, he earned a 6-3, 6-3 win against Olle Noltorp at the No. 2 singles position. In doubles, the junior partnered with J.B. Pickard at the No. 1 doubles position, and beat Noltorp and Niklas Jensen 6-4.

On Sunday, against South Alabama, Nicholls won in straight sets against Braden Hannig at the No. 2 position, 6-2, 6-4. His doubles match went unfinished as Samford claimed the doubles point.

Samford (4-2) will host UAB on Friday, Feb. 7, then Kennesaw State and Piedmont on Sunday, Feb. 9.
