Furman’s Poritzky named SoCon Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

Junior Posted Two Wins in SoCon Opener

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Elijah Poritzky has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all competition from Feb. 27 – March 4. The selection is made by the league office.

The junior from Palma de Mallorca, Spain, played at the top spot in both singles and doubles for the Paladins in their 6-1 conference-opening win at UNCG last Friday (March 1). Poritzky won both his singles and doubles matches to help Furman claim the program’s 11th straight conference-opening match win.

He teamed with Thomas Kennedy to win the No. 1 doubles match, 7-5, clinching the opening point for the Paladins and marking the duo’s team-best seventh win of the season, all coming at the top doubles position. Poritzky followed with a three-set victory at No. 1 singles, 7-6 (0), 4-6, 6-3, for his third straight win at the top spot.

Following a two-week layoff, Furman is scheduled to get back on the courts on Saturday (March 16) when the team visits UAB.
