ETSU’s Oscar Martinez named SoCon player of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Oscar Martinez has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all competition from March 24-30. The selection is made by the league office.

Martinez, who won the honor for the fifth time this season including the last two weeks, led ETSU to wins over Wofford and 70th-ranked Samford last week. In a 7-0 win versus Wofford on March 27, the junior got a 6-2, 6-3, win in singles over Parker Mariencheck. Two days later, the native of La Guaira, Venezuela, combined with Martin Vergara for a 7-6 win in doubles, before logging a 6-4, 6-4, victory in singles, helping the Buccaneers top the Bulldogs, 4-3, in a matchup of ranked squads. Martinez is now 15-1 in singles and 12-2 in doubles this season.

ETSU welcomes Chattanooga on April 2, before traveling to Furman on April 6.
