ETSU’s Oscar Martinez named SoCon player of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Oscar Martinez has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all competition from Jan. 27-Feb. 2. The selection is made by the league office.

Martinez, who also won the honor on Jan. 20, went 3-0 last week for ETSU. On Jan. 31, the junior won, 6-4, 6-4, over DePaul’s Alejandro Gandini at the No. 1 singles spot as the Bucs won the dual, 5-2. The next day, the native of La Guaira, Venezuela, got wins at the No. 1 spot in singles and doubles in ETSU’s 4-3 win over VCU. Martinez combine with teammate Martin Vergara for a 6-4 win in doubles, before he rallied to his singles victory, winning 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2.

ETSU hosts Presbyterian on Feb. 8.
