Tuesday's Men's Tennis Roundup

Mercer clinches share of regular season title

Mercer 7 , Wofford 0
Visiting Mercer gritted out a pair of doubles triumphs to grab the early team point and then got the better end of a quartet of three-set tilts in singles competition on the way to a 7-0 win at Wofford on Tuesday that clinched at least a share of the Southern Conference championship for the Bears – the first league crown in the 33-year history of the program. It was the seventh-straight victory for the Orange & Black (11-6, 6-0 SoCon) who will take on league nemesis Samford on Saturday in Macon for the Southern Conference's outright crown.

In a match that was much closer than the final score would indicate, the Wofford College men's tennis team was defeated 7-0 by Mercer at the Reeves Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon. The Bears won two of the three doubles matches and then claimed all six singles matches, including three that went to a third-set tiebreaker. In doubles, the Terriers earned a 6-3 win at the #1 position by  Robbie Young  and  Jack Deveney . The #3 position was won 6-4 by the Bears. The deciding match was at the #2 position, where  Hugo Rask  and  Ian Rasheed  had a 2-1 lead before falling 3-6.

UNC Greensboro 4, UNC Asheville 2
The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team secured a 4-2 victory in a non-conference matchup with the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville on Tuesday at the UNCG Tennis Courts. UNCG put the first point on the scoreboard after capturing two doubles matches.  John Gabelic  and  Tymofiy Khrystyuk  defeated Cian Ingles and Freddy Murray, 6-0, on court one to start the match.  Devon Moskowitz  and  Andrew Black  granted the Spartans with a 1-0 lead after taking down Griffin Lovern and Trevor Gray on court three, 6-4.  William Elmers  and  Luke Thomson's  matchup with Olle Lidholt and Tarek Erlewein on court two remained unfinished with Lidholt and Erlewein holding a 5-3 advantage.
