The selection is made by the league office. Arrendondo went 3-0 last week as Samford grabbed a pair of conference road wins. In a 5-2 victory over UNCG on March 7, the senior from Mexico, picked up a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win in singles. The selection is made by the league office. Cowcher compiled a 3-0 record last week for ETSU as the Buccaneers defeated UNC Asheville on Feb. 25, and No. 42 Charlotte on March 1. In a 7-0 win over UNC Asheville, Cowcher topped Cian Ingles, 6-2, 6-3, in singles, and combined with Arenui Luethi for a 6-0 doubles victory. Against Charlotte, the native of Colchester, Essex, England, got a 6-4, 6-2 win in singles, helping the Bucs to a 4-3 win. ETSU plays at Tennessee Tech today. <div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Jakub Jupa has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all competition from Feb. 17-23. The selection is made by the league office. Jupa picked up three wins, each coming in the No. 1 flight, during Chattanooga’s duals with Tennessee Tech on Feb. 20, and Eastern Kentucky on Feb. 21. In a 4-3 win over Tennessee Tech, the junior won his singles match over Oliver Dao, 6-4, 6-2, and combined with teammate Cortland Grove for a 6-3 win in doubles. The next day, the native of Kladno, Czech Republic, defeated Nuno Pinheiro, 6-0, 6-2, in singles, accounting for the team’s lone point during a 4-1 setback. Chattanooga hosts three duals this weekend. <div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Nico Snyder has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all competition from Feb. 10-16. The selection is made by the league office. Snyder had three wins for Furman in duals against Coastal Carolina and William & Mary. In a 6-1 team setback at Coastal Carolina on Feb. 13, the sophomore got the squad’s only point after defeating Christopher Norlin, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1 singles. Snyder’s win marked Norlin’s first singles loss of the season. The selection is made by the league office. Martinez, who also won the honor on Jan. 20 and Feb. 3, had two wins for ETSU in its 4-0 win over Presbyterian on Feb. 8. Competing at the No. 1 singles flight, the junior defeated Daksh Prasad, 6-0, 6-2. The native of La Guaira, Venezuela, teamed up with Kai Cowcher in doubles, winning 6-2 in their first match together this season. The selection is made by the league office. Martinez, who also won the honor on Jan. 20, went 3-0 last week for ETSU. On Jan. 31, the junior won, 6-4, 6-4, over DePaul’s Alejandro Gandini at the No. 1 singles spot as the Bucs won the dual, 5-2. The next day, the native of La Guaira, Venezuela, got wins at the No. 1 spot in singles and doubles in ETSU’s 4-3 win over VCU. The redshirt sophomore teamed up with Kai Cowcher in doubles, winning 7-6 to clinch the doubles point for the Buccaneers. <div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Oscar Martinez has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all competition to this point in the spring. The selection is made by the league office. Martinez competed in the No. 1 flight for ETSU in each of its four matches so far in the 2026 calendar year. On Jan. 9, Martinez began his spring season with a 6-1, 7-6 (10-8) victory over Tennessee’s Drago Cazacu. Alongside partner Martin Vergara, the junior was also part of two doubles victories against Tennessee as the pair defeated the Vols’ Cazacu and Piotr Siekanowicz, 7-6 (7-4) in the first matchup and 6-3 in the second tilt. Martinez and Vergara are ranked No. 61 in the ITA National Poll as a doubles tandem. The native of La Guaira, Venezuela, had both his singles and doubles matches against top-ranked Wake Forest go unfinished on Jan. 11. He was ahead in his singles match, 6-4, 5-3, and the doubles match was tied at 3-3. <div class="payload-richtext">Chattanooga, Tenn. - In a tightly contested Southern Conference tennis match Saturday afternoon at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee, No. 3 seeded Samford secured a narrow 4-3 victory over No. 5 seeded Furman. Furman claimed the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 courts. Samford started strong with Santiago Arredondo and Sandeep Mohandoss defeating Cole Burnam and Connor Layman at No. 2 doubles, 6-2. Furman's teams at No. 1 and No. 3 positions both prevailed in tiebreakers. Elijah Poritzky and Matt Kandel won 7-6, 7-3 at No. 1 over J.B. Pickard and Darcy Nicholls, while Nico Snyder and Nicolas Dispas secured a 7-6, 7-4 victory at No. 3 over Victorio Sardinha / Sebastian Harrison. Samford quickly responded in singles play with Will Gray triumphing over Connor Laymon 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 6 position, followed by Sebastian Harrison defeating Nico Snyder 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 to give Samford a 2-1 lead. The Bulldogs extended their advantage when Hayden Menon beat John Rado 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3 singles. Furman's Elijah Poritzky kept the Paladins alive with a straight-sets 6-4, 6-4 win over Sandeep Mohandoss at No. 1 singles, narrowing Samford's lead to 3-2. Matt Kandel battled through a three-set thriller at No. 2 singles, ultimately prevailing over Darcy Nicholls 7-6(8), 3-6, 6-2 to level the match at 3-3. The decisive match came at No. 4 singles where Samford's J.B. Pickard rallied to defeat Walker Allen 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, clinching the 4-3 team victory for the Bulldogs. Samford, which earned a piece of the regular season title, finished with a 19-5 overall record. The Bulldogs were in the title match for the third time in three years and claimed their first tournament title since 2013. Nicholls won the Pinnacle Award as the student-athlete with the highest GPA on the championship-winning team. The Junior from Warragul, Australia maintains a 4.0 GPA while majoring in Law, Politics, and Society. The Bulldogs, who earned the SoCon’s automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championships, will learn their postseason opponent on Monday, April 28, with an announcement on NCAA.com at 5:30 p.m. Singles 1. <div class="payload-richtext">CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – No. 3 seed Samford and No. 5 seed Furman have advanced to Saturday’s title match of the 2025 Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Championship after picking up semifinal wins Friday. Saturday’s title tilt will start at 1 p.m. The tournament is being contested at the Champions Club.   Samford is making its sixth appearance in the finals and Furman its 12th. This will be the first time these teams have met in the championship match.   No. 5 Furman 4, No. 1 ETSU 3   Fifth seeded Furman upset the Regular-season champion and five-time defending tournament champion ETSU in Friday’s semifinals, 4-3. Furman grabbed an early lead when Nico Snyder and Nicolas Dispas defeated Predro Cressoni and James Sims, 6-4, at the No. 3 doubles spot, before Elijah Poritzky and Matt Kandel beat Peter Kalocsai and Martin Garica-Ripoll, 7-5. The Bucs came back at Kalocsai and Francisco Lamas won at the No. 1 and No. 4 courts, respectively. Kalocsai earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Poritzky and Lamas beat John Rado 6-0, 6-3. Kandel tied the match at two with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Garcia-Ripoll, before Pedro Cressoni pushed the Bucs back into the lead with a 6-3, 6-1 defeat of Theophile Joly at court three. <div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Nemanja Stefanovic has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Year, as the league announced its 2025 awards Wednesday. Samford’s Hayden Menon has been named the SoCon Freshman of the Year, while Mercer coach Eric Hayes earned his second career SoCon Coach of the Year honor. Wofford’s Robbie Young was named the winner of the Don Bunch/Buddy Hartsell Sportsmanship Award.   Postseason balloting was conducted by the league’s eight head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.   Stefanovic becomes the second SoCon Player of the Year for Mercer. The junior from Oakville, Ontario, enters postseason play with a 13-6 singles mark at No. 1, including a 6-1 SoCon record at the top flight. In doubles play, he owns a perfect 7-0 mark at the No. 1 spot in league action, while playing with teammate Marceau Fouilhoux. Stefanovic earned SoCon Player of the Week honors on January 14, the first of his career. Stefanovic earned first-team All-SoCon honors in singles and second-team honors with Fouilhoux in doubles.   Menon is Samford’s first SoCon Freshman of the Year selection. The rookie from Tampa, Florida, is 14-6 overall in singles play this season, including a 6-1 SoCon record at the No. 3 position. In doubles play, Menon is 8-4 overall including a 4-3 league mark.   Hayes earned his second SoCon Men’s Coach of the Year accolade since 2018 after leading the Bears to a 11-7 overall record and a 6-1 SoCon mark that claimed a share of the regular season title. In addition to Stafanovic, Mercer saw Hod’Abalo Isak Padio earn first-team honors in singles and doubles with teammate Amen Prince Gondounou. Young won the Don Bunch/Buddy Hartsell Sportsmanship award for the second time in his career. The senior from Greenville, South Carolina, posted a 3-4 mark at No. 1 singles in league matches for the Terriers this season, earning first-team all-conference honors. He went 6-1 in doubles action at the No. 1 position with Jack Deveney, earning first-team All-SoCon honors for doubles.   ETSU’s Peter Kalocsai, Samford’s Sandeep Mohandoss, and Chattanooga’s Jakub Jupa rounded out the singles All-SoCon first team, while Samford’s Darcy Nicholls and J.B. Pickard earned the other first-team doubles spots. SoCon men's tennis postseason awards announced

<div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Peter Kalocsai has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all competition from April 8-14. The selection is made by the league office. On Wednesday, April 9, in a 5-2 victory against Furman, Kalocsai teamed up with Martin Garcia-Ripoll to defeat Elijah Poritzky and Matt Kandell, 7-6 (11-9), at the No. 1 doubles court. In singles competition, the Budapest, Hungary, product defeated Kandell in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6. In a 7-0 triumph over The Citadel on Saturday, the senior again joined Garcia-Ripoll to take down Noah Van Dyke and Tucker Hendrick, 6-3. Kalocsai then logged a straight set victory against Van Dyke in singles, 6-2, 6-4. ETSU (12-6, 6-1 SoCon) will play The Citadel on Thursday, April 17, in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Championship at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee. <div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The SoCon Men’s Tennis regular season ended in a three-way tie for first between ETSU, Mercer, and Samford. The tie breaker to determine the first seed came down to the best overall team score, which placed ETSU (40-9) in the No. 1 position. The SoCon Men’s Tennis Championship will be contested April 17-19 at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Bucs finished the regular season with a 7-0 win at The Citadel on Saturday, pushing their overall record to 12-6 and their league mark to 6-1. ETSU, which has won the tournament every year it has been contested since rejoining the SoCon in 2014-15, will square off with No. 8 seed The Citadel (4-24, 0-7 SoCon) in the first round of the tournament on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. The Bucs and Bulldogs met in SoCon quarterfinal play two years ago in the 2023 tournament, which ETSU won, 4-0. On the same side of the bracket, No. 4 seed Chattanooga faces No. 5 seed Furman at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. The Mocs, who reached last year’s semifinals, went 13-10 overall and 4-3 in SoCon play this season, including a 5-2 decision over the Paladins on April 4th. Furman (7-14, 3-4 SoCon) will be seeking its first SoCon tournament title since 2009 and its 15th overall. Thursday’s matchup will mark the tenth meeting between the Mocs and Paladins in the SoCon tournament, with Furman leading the series, 5-4. In the bottom half of the bracket, No. 3 seed Samford faces No. 6 seed UNCG at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The Bulldogs who will be vying for their third tournament title and first since claiming the crown in 2013, went 16-5 overall and 6-1 in league action this season, downing UNCG, 6-1, on March 29th. The Spartans finished league play with a 9-13 overall record and a 2-5 league mark. The Bulldogs are 3-0 against the Spartans all-time in the tournament, with all three matchups coming in the quarterfinals. The Furman men's tennis team suffered a 5-2 setback to the East Tennessee State Buccaneers in Southern Conference action Wednesday afternoon from the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex. Furman drops to 6-14 overall and 2-4 in the SoCon. With the win, East Tennessee State improves to 11-6 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.
