Men’s soccer players of the week announced
Mercer’s Agard, McMullen honored
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer defender Sekou Agard and goalkeeper Trevor McMullen have been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition Sept. 3-9.
Agard, who received the honor for the second time this season, led the Bears offensively this week, scoring in both games. On Thursday against Memphis, the senior defender scored in the 32nd minute off an assist from Carlos Santamaria for the go-ahead goal in Mercer’s 2-0 victory. Two days later, the Snellville, Georgia, product scored in the 27th minute, assisted by Santamaria, to put the Bears up 2-0 against Southern Indiana. Agard leads the conference in both points (8) and goals (4).
McMullen recorded back-to-back clean sheets for the Bears this week. The Decatur, Georgia, product faced four shots and made four saves this week for a total of 14 saves on the season. Against Memphis, the graduate goalkeeper made three saves on three shots, then made one save against Southern Indiana. He currently leads the conference with five shutouts this season, and holds a .824 save percentage this season, which is second in the conference.
Mercer (3-1-2) travels to Kansas City on Friday, then Davidson on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
