Men’s soccer players of the week announced
UNCG’s Tattevin, ETSU’s McKenna honored
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG forward Arnaud Tattevin and ETSU defender Chris McKenna have been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition Oct. 24-30.
Tattevin led the Spartans offensively to a 6-2 win over VMI in the final game of the regular season. The Rennes, France, product scored the second goal of the game in the 16th minute from an assist by Basile Marc. The freshman forward then scored the fifth and sixth goals of the game for UNCG in the 59th and 90th minutes, respectively. Arnaud’s hat trick is his first and the first for the Spartans this season, bringing his total number of goals on the season to six, which leads the team and places him fourth in the conference.
McKenna, who won the honor on Sept. 19, led the Buccaneers defensively last week, playing all 90 minutes in the regular season finale against Mercer. With three seconds left in the game, the Glasgow, Scotland, native found the back of the net off a corner kick from Tarik Pannholzer to secure a 2-1 win and regular season SoCon Championship for the Bucs, their first since 2017. With the win, ETSU goes into the conference tournament as the No. 1 seed.
UNCG (2-9-5, 1-2-2 SoCon) goes into the SoCon tournament as the No. 4 seed and will play fifth-seeded Mercer on Friday, Nov. 3, at 3 p.m. in Johnson City, Tennessee. ETSU (9-5-2, 4-0-1 SoCon) will get a first-round bye and will play the winner of the UNCG vs. Mercer match on Sunday, Nov. 5, at 3 p.m.
