Men’s soccer players of the week announced
VMI’s Grant, UNCG’s Wilson honored
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – VMI forward Kyle Grant and UNCG goalkeeper Seth Wilson have been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition Sept. 10-16.
In just under 15 minutes of play, Grant, a sophomore forward, scored the game winning goal for the Keydets in their 2-1 victory over Howard. The Montego Bay, Jamaica, product’s goal was unassisted and boosted VMI to their first win against a Division I opponent on Patchin Field since 2014.
Wilson, who was honored on Aug. 27, turned in two clean sheets for the Spartans last week. On Tuesday against Longwood, The Frisco, Texas, native made three saves to protect UNCG’s 2-0 win. Against No. 19 Charlotte on Friday, the redshirt sophomore recorded four saves on four shots on target to produce a scoreless draw. Wilson has played all 540 minutes in goal for the Spartans and leads the conference in save percentage at 87 percent.
UNCG (3-1-2) goes to West Virginia for a Tuesday match up, while VMI (3-4-0) travels to Saint Peter’s on Sunday.
