SoCon Men’s Soccer Players of the Week Announced
UNC Greensboro’s Jungling, Furman’s Salinas Key Conference Victories
SPARTANBURG, SC – UNC Greensboro midfielder Malo Jungling and Furman goalkeeper Aaron Salinas were named Southern Conference offensive and defensive players of the week for matches held from September 15-21.
Jungling (Veckring, France) led the Spartans to a perfect week, beginning with a 5-0 win over South Florida Tuesday night in the Gate City. Jungling made his collegiate debut against the Bulls and scored early in the victory. With his team trailing SoCon newcomer Liberty at the break on Saturday night, Jungling came through in the 47th minute to bring the score level – sparking an eventual 2-1 win by the Spartans.
Salinas (Grand Prairie, Texas) continued his strong play of late, turning away each of the three shots Mercer put on goal Saturday for his third clean sheet in the past four matches. Salinas played all 90 minutes between the posts, and his strong play was needed in a 1-0 victory for the defending SoCon champions.
UNCG (3-1-4, 1-0 SoCon) hits the road this week, traveling to Mercer for a 7:00 pm SoCon battle in Macon, GA. The Spartans will return home to host Furman in a key league matchup on October 3.
Furman (3-1-4, 1-0 SoCon) plays at Liberty on Saturday at 5:00 pm ET.
