SoCon Announces Men’s Soccer Players of the Week
UNC Greensboro’s Borneo, Mercer’s Hampshaw Earn Awards
SPARTANBURG, SC – UNC Greensboro midfielder Caleb Borneo and Mercer goalkeeper Henry Hampshaw were named Southern Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for contests held from September 1-6.
Borneo (Morgantown, WVa.) finished the week with four points on two goals, scoring the Spartans’ lone goal in a 1-1 draw at Dayton and finding the net in a 2-2 draw at Davidson. His goal against Davidson came in Borneo’s first start of the season.
Hampshaw (Holmfirth, England) came through with an excellent effort between the posts in a 1-1 draw at Belmont last Friday night. The senior turned back eight of the Bruins’ nine shots in the match, including a clutch save in the 80th minute off a penalty kick. Belmont’s lone goal came via penalty kick. Hampshaw has managed 22 saves so far this season, which ranks 12th nationally.
UNC Greensboro (1-0-4) has another nationally-relevant challenge ahead, traveling to face No. 13 South Carolina on September 11 at 7:00 pm. Mercer (0-3-2) travels to face Georgia State on September 9.
