UNC Greensboro Advances to Second Round of NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament
Spartans Top Elon Thursday Night on Penalty Kicks

GREENSBORO – UNC Greensboro dominated play during a scoreless regulation, made several pushes during overtime, and advanced on penalty kicks past Elon in the opening round of the 2025 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship Thursday.
The Spartans (12-4-5) outshot the Phoenix 23-4 on Thursday, but could not get on the board through 110 minutes. Elon clanged its first penalty kick attempt off the crossbar and UNCG ultimately advanced 4-3 after Kimito Fritz connected on the final penalty attempt – setting off a fun celebration with a healthy and loud home crowd.
UNCG will play at No. 2 seed Virginia on Sunday afternoon at 5:00 in Charlottesville, VA. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw during the regular season.
