SoCon Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week

SPARTANBURG, SC – VMI midfielder Jesse Lee and Wofford center back Adam Celik have been named Southern Conference men’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week for matches held from September 23-29.

Lee (Dacula, GA / Mill Creek HS) led the Keydets to their first Division I win of the season, scoring the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory against in-state foe Radford last Wednesday. His first tally of the season came in the 27th minute off an assist from Yeirin Mejia. Lee played all 90 minutes in the win and was credited with two shots. The junior standout has scored five goals and recorded eight assists in 34 career appearances with the Keydets since the 2023 season.

Celik (Höllviken, Sweden / Sundsgymnasiet) netted a game-tying goal in a 1-1 draw at Georgia State last week and anchored a defensive effort that limited the aggressive Panthers to only five shots in the match – nearly nine shots less than their season average (13.7). Celik’s goal, which was his first 21 career appearances with the Terriers, came in the 58th minute. Celik has started all eight matches for Wofford this season, logging 618 minutes.

VMI (2-5-3) is back in action Tuesday (Sept. 30) at St. Thomas (MN) and opens SoCon play Saturday at Wofford.

Wofford (3-5-1) hosts Queens (NC) University on Tuesday (Sept. 30) before hosting the Keydets on Saturday night.
