 </a>CARY, NC – Furman’s magical run came to an end Friday night at the 2025 Men’s College Cup, as Washington used a pair of first half goals to knock off the No. 16 Paladins 3-1 in the first semifinal. The Paladins (16-2-5) played in their first College Cup, and first for a SoCon side since Davidson in 1992. Furman previously advanced to the Elite Eight in 1999 under Coach Doug Allison, who is retiring after his 31st season in charge. The two losses are the fewest in school history, tying the 1999 and 2020 teams. Allison's career finishes with a 365-175-77 record, making him the winningest coach in SoCon history. Washington (15-6-2), one of the nation’s top scoring teams with 55 goals coming in, stretched the lead to 3-0 in the 85th minute. Furman answered quickly, getting a Luke Hutzell goal in the 86th minute off assists from Braden Dunham and Connor Dunnigan. The Huskies held a 24-6 shooting advantage, with 12 shots on goal. Ivan Horvat turned away eight shots for Furman. </div>

NC State scored in the sixth minute to take an early lead, but UNCG recovered and put two shots on goal later in the half that were saved by the Wolfpack keeper. The Spartans kept pressure on in the second half with two more shots on goal, but NC State extended its advantage with a goal in the 79th minute and held on for the victory.</div>

The Spartans (12-4-5) led 2-1 after 45 minutes, striking first on an Issah Haruna goal in the fifth minute. Haruna scored off a pass from Daniel Longo. The Cavaliers (12-2-5) knotted the score in the 15th minute, but Pablo Torre made good use of a nice pass from Haruna in the 39th minute to give the visitors another lead. Outstanding play between the posts by All-SoCon keeper Seth Wilson kept UNCG in front for much of the second half, but a foul call in the box led to a penalty kick chance for Virginia, and Nicholas Simmonds connected for his 10th goal in the 80th minute for a 2-2 score. Wilson finished with 10 saves in the match. The equalizer came less than three minutes after Haruna had a golden chance blocked by the Cavaliers' defense. The Spartans' defense came through down the stretch to keep the score level, turning away a flurry of activity from the home side. Virginia's Brendan Lambe had a shot blocked in the 89th minute (88:33), and Wilson saved his shot off the carom three seconds later to send the game to overtime. UNCG and Virginia played to a 1-1 draw during their regular-season battle in Charlottesville, but penalty kicks were in store after two scoreless extra periods on Sunday. Arnaud Tattevin led off with a successful attempt to give UNCG an early edge, and Virginia's Simmonds clanged his chance off the corner of the crossbar. Campbell's strike came in the 43rd minute off a nifty pass from SoCon Player of the Year Diego Hernandez. Hernandez took a feed from Wilfer Bustamente and quickly passed to Campbell off his heel for the difference maker. It was Campbell's first goal of the season and marked the eighth assist of the season for Hernandez. Bustamante, a two-time All-SoCon selection, registered his seventh assist. Western Michigan (8-10-4) had chances in the first half, but managed only one shot on goal. SoCon Goalkeeper of the Year Ivan Horvat turned that chance away and finished with his ninth clean sheet of the year. A near-capacity crowd of 2,205 provided strong and vocal support for the home side. Hofstra (14-5-0) earned an at-large bid after losing in the CAA semifinals to Stony Brook, but blanked Syracuse (2-0) in the opening round and got past No. 1 Vermont (3-2) with an overtime goal in the 96th minute.</div>

Reid put his left foot on the carom after Wilfer Bustamante's header in the 107th minute, slipping the game-winner into the lower right corner. Bustamante's chance came off a terrific ball from Connor Stout. The Paladins (14-1-4) have won two SoCon Championships in a row and have 16 since the event began in 1988. Head coach Doug Allison, in his 31st and final season in charge at Furman, won his 11th title. The battle between a pair of top-20 teams lived up to its advanced billing, with both sides competing well throughout Sunday's title bout. Furman, ranked fifth nationally, will await their seeding in the NCAA Championship, with that announcement coming during the selection show at 1:00 pm ET on Monday (NCAA.com). UNC Greensboro (12-4-4), ranked as high as 19th nationally this past week, remains in a strong position for an at-large bid after playing one of the nation's most challenging schedules. Midfielder Diego Hernandez (Mesquite, TX) was named Player of the Year, Ivan Horvat (Bratislava, Slovakia) was named Goalkeeper of the Year, defender Braden Dunham (Peachtree City, GA) was named Freshman of the Year, and Doug Allison (Bath, England) was named Coach of the Year after a stellar regular season for the Paladins. The conference's six head coaches voted on the All-Conference first and second teams, an All-Freshman team, and the four individual awards. The coaches are not allowed to vote for candidates from their own team. Each All-SoCon unit consists of three forwards, three midfielders, three defenders, a goalkeeper, and the player with the next-highest number of votes, regardless of position. The 11-man SoCon All-Freshman Team is positionless. Furman and UNC Greensboro each had eight selections on the All-SoCon team, with the Paladins leading the way with five first-team members. Mercer (4), Wofford (3), and ETSU (1) also had players on the All-SoCon first or second team. Hernandez scored 24 points during the regular season, tied atop the SoCon stat sheet, and led the league with eight assists. His efforts earned slots on the Hermann Award Midseason Watch List and the Top Drawer Soccer Player of the Year Leaderboard. Three of his eight goals scored were game winners. He recorded two braces this season and logged a season-high two assists in a SoCon win over ETSU on October 11. Horvat answered the call in his first season between the posts, recording five shutouts and a SoCon-best 0.77 goals against average among regulars. He led the SoCon in save percentage (81.0%) and forged an 11-1-3 record in goal. Three of his shutouts came against nationally-ranked teams, with scoreless draws against No. 9 San Diego and No. 5 Virginia Tech – and a 2-0 win over UNC Greensboro in a critical SoCon showdown on October 25. He earned SoCon Defensive Player of the Week honors three times during the regular season. Dunham starred for a Furman backline that held opponents to just 14 goals on the season, the best mark in the SoCon. He saw action in 17 matches (all starts) and made his presence felt on the offensive end as well, scoring four goals to go with two assists. He netted all four goals over a three-match stretch that saw Furman post a 2-0-1 mark. Defensively, Dunham was a key part of seven shutouts by the Paladins and six matches in which Furman allowed only one goal. Against nationally ranked opponents this season, Dunham and the Paladins' defense allowed only two goals. Furman was 2-0-3 in those matches. Allison, who is in his 31st and final season in charge of the Furman program, won his 10th SoCon Coach of the Year award. His team earned preseason national recognition in the polls and remained a fixture in the top 25 despite playing one of the most challenging schedules in program history. The Paladins (12-1-4) finished with the program's highest regular-season win total since posting 13 victories in 2018. Allison has 361 career wins, which ranks in the top 25 nationally among active coaches. The Paladins reached No. 5 in the Top Drawer Soccer national poll this week. UNC Greensboro had three of its eight choices earn first-team honors, with forward Enzo Dovlo (Paris, France), joined by midfielder Julien Le Bourdoulous (Quemperven, France) and defender Sami Lachekar (Metz, France). Mercer forward Junior Casillas (Lexington, NE) earned first-team honors along with defender Eli Bannister (Fayetteville, GA), and Wofford was represented on the first team by midfielder Kalle Rahbek (Odense, Denmark). The 2025 SoCon Men's Soccer Championship gets underway on Friday, with quarterfinal matches set for Greenville, SC, and Macon, GA. An afternoon tilt in Greenville features No. 4 ETSU vs. No. 5 Wofford, with the winner advancing to face top-seeded Furman on Sunday afternoon. Also on Friday night, No. 3 UNC Greensboro will take on No. 6 VMI in Macon, with that winner advancing to face No. 2 Mercer on Sunday night at 7:00. <div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, SC – UNCG forward Arnaud Tattevin and VMI defender Jack Yough were named Southern Conference offensive and defensive players of the week for matches held from October 28-November 1. Tattevin (Rennes, France / ETP Odorico) scored twice in the No. 19 Spartans’ 3-0 win over second-seeded Mercer in the regular season finale, securing the third seed for UNCG in the upcoming SoCon Men’s Soccer Championships. His goal in the 67th minute proved to be the game winner, and his score on a penalty kick in the 79th minute sealed the win. Tattevin has eight goals and two assists (18 points) in 16 starts this season for the Spartans, elevating his career stats to 22 goals and 48 points with another strong campaign. Tattevin has five game winners in his career, with four coming this season. Yough (Poughkeepsie, NY / Our Lady of Lourdes) lifted VMI to its first SoCon win since October 19, 2002, snapping an 87-match losing streak that spanned 8,414 days. The freshman played 90 minutes of strong defense, holding ETSU scoreless until the 87th minute in a 2-1 victory. He netted an unassisted goal in the 50th minute to provide the difference on a historic day for the Keydets. Yough leads VMI with three goals on the season, including a pair of game winners. UNCG and VMI will square off Friday evening in the SoCon quarterfinals in Macon, GA.  </a> (Link) SPARTANBURG, SC – Furman captured its 22nd Southern Conference regular season men’s soccer championship with a 2-0 road win at Wofford Saturday night. The Paladins have won more SoCon regular season titles than any other program. The regular season trophy is the first for Furman since 2020 and comes on the heels of a SoCon Tournament Championship and first-round NCAA Tournament win in 2024. The 7th-ranked Paladins (12-1-4, 4-0-1 SoCon) are riding a six-match win streak and lost only once this season despite a challenging, nationally relevant schedule.  The title is the 12th under legendary head coach Doug Allison, who is in his final season in charge of the Paladins. In matches vs. top-25 teams this season, the Paladins are 2-0-3, with draws against top-10 programs Duke, Virginia Tech, and San Diego. Furman also blitzed No. 8 Gardner-Webb on the road by a score of 4-1 on September 12 and captured a critical 2-0 win over No. 18 UNC Greensboro last week. This year’s tournament begins on Friday, November 7. Furman will host one side of the bracket in Greenville, SC, and No. 2 seed Mercer will host the other side in Macon, GA. Semifinal matches will be on Sunday, November 9, and the championship match will be at the highest remaining seed on either November 15 or 16. Furman will play the winner of No. 4 ETSU and No. 5 Wofford on Sunday, November 9, at 2:00 pm in Greenville. The Bucs and Terriers will face off on November 7 at 4:00 pm. Mercer posted a 3-1-1 mark in SoCon play, including a draw with Furman in the league opener, to earn the No. 2 seed. The Bears will play the winner of No. 3 UNC Greensboro and No. 6 VMI on Sunday, November 9, at 7:00 pm in Macon. The Spartans and Keydets will play on November 7 at 7:00 p.m. UNCG, ranked No. 21 nationally, secured the No. 3 seed with a 3-0 win over the Bears on Saturday night. The Spartans played a strong national schedule out of conference, posting excellent results and picking up a key regional win over No. 5 High Point. UNCG played well at No. 9 Virginia and No. 3 NC State in October, earning draws in both matches. VMI ended the regular season on a high note as well, snapping an 87-match losing streak in SoCon play that stretched back to the 2002 season. The Keydets defeated ETSU, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon, its first SoCon win since beating The Citadel, 4-2, on September 16, 2002, in Lexington, VA. <div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, SC – ETSU junior Jaime Carrillo and Furman sophomore Ryan Wagner were named Southern Conference offensive and defensive players of the week for matches held from October 21-27. Carrillo (Amarillo, Texas / Palo Duro HS) scored a pair of goals in the second half to help ETSU pull away from Wofford in a 4-2 SoCon win that clinched a top-four regular season finish for the Bucs. He took a pass from Berkay Duman and found the back of the net in the 61stminute, extending the Buccaneers lead to 3-1. He put the game out of reach in the 65th minute off an assist by Henrique Cruz for a 4-1 advantage. Carrillo has scored five goals and recorded an assist in 12 matches this season (11 starts), leading the Bucs in points and goals in 885 minutes played. Wagner (Leawood, KS / Blue Valley North HS) scored a goal in No. 7 Furman’s 2-1 non-conference win at UNC Asheville on Tuesday and anchored the backline for the Paladins in a critical 2-0 victory over No. 18 UNC Greensboro Saturday night in Greenville. The win kept Furman in a tie for first place in the SoCon standings with one match to go and clinched a top-two seed in the upcoming conference tournament. Wagner has started 13 matches for Furman this season, including five shutouts, powering a Paladin defense that leads the SoCon with only 14 goals allowed. The Paladins have allowed only three goals in four SoCon matches to date, leading the league in goal differential (+6). ETSU (2-7-4, 2-2-0 SoCon) closes out its regular season on the road Saturday, traveling to Lexington, VA, to battle VMI at 3:00 pm.
