SoCon announces indoor track and field athletes of the week

The Citadel and Furman athletes honored this week.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel’s Bradlee Jones has been named the Southern Conference men’s indoor track athlete of the week, while Furman’s Camryn Wennersten and The Citadel’s Karmen Williams claimed women’s track and field athlete of the week honors, respectively, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Selections were made by panels of the league’s track and field coaches and included all competition from Feb. 14-20. There were no men’s indoor field nominees this week.

Jones competed at the USC Indoor Open in Columbia, South Carolina, where he broke The Citadel’s freshman record in the 60m dash. With a time of 6.92, the Greenwood, South Carolina, native set a new personal record, placing him third in the conference this season and third in The Citadel record book for the event.

Furman’s Wennersten competed at the USC Indoor Open as well where she placed second in the 800m with a time of 2:08.59. The sophomore from Ridgewood, New Jersey, set a new personal record with her time, which placed her in the conference lead this season.

Competing at the USC Indoor Open, The Citadel’s Karmen Williams took seventh place in the shot put with a new personal record of 12.64m, placing her third in the SoCon and fourth in The Citadel record book. That same day, the New Orleans, Louisiana, product took second in the weight throw with a toss of 16.39m, moving her into second in the conference.
 
This is the first career recognition for all three honorees.
