Furman’s Akers and Barth named SoCon men’s golfers of the week
Each shot 5-under at the Furman Intercollegiate
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Clark Akers and Harris Barth have been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfers of the Week for all competition from Oct. 16-22. The selection is made by the league office.
Both golfers finished tied for fifth at the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, South Carolina, which wrapped play on Sunday. Akers, a junior from Nashville, Tennessee, posted rounds of 66-71-70, while Barth, a junior from Atlanta, Georgia, shot rounds of 77-68-66, with each golfer completing the tournament with a score of 207 (-6). Akers and Barth tied for second at the event in par-4 scoring (3.88). Barth tied for fourth with 14 birdies, while Akers, who also received the honor on Oct. 9, was one of 17 golfers to post an eagle during the tournament.
Furman finished second in the 15-team, 87-golfer field, with a 21-under 831 performance. The Paladins shot 277 in the first round, 279 in the second round and 275 in the final round. Furman defeated 34th-ranked Wake Forest in the event, and finished behind just 27th-ranked Texas A&M.
The Paladins will play their next tournament next semester in Gainesville, Florida, at the Gator Invitational on Feb. 15-16.
