Furman’s Akers named SoCon men’s golfer of the week

Shot 10-under at the Trinity Forest Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Clark Akers has been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from Oct. 2-8. The selection is made by the league office.
 
Akers finished tied for sixth at the Trinity Forest Invitational, which wrapped play on Tuesday. The junior posted rounds of 67-71-68 for a tournament score of 206 (-10). The Nashville, Tennessee, native began the final day in 11th place before making a move up the leaderboard, fueled by six birdies during the round. Akers finished the event with 18 birdies, which was tied for third in the tournament, and was also ranked in the top 5 in par-3 (2.83) and par-4 (3.87) scoring.

Furman finished sixth at the Trinity Forest Invitational in the 15-team, 87-golfer field, with a 16-under-par 848 performance. The Paladins shot 286 in the first round, 282 in the second round and 280 in the final round.

The Paladins will play their next tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina, at the Qubein Cup on Oct. 14-15.

Also nominated: Nathan Trodd (Mercer), Camden Braidech (Chattanooga), Jace Butcher (Western Carolina) and Ben Jordan (Wofford)
