Malik, Bressum lead Bucs in spring opener
Buccaneer newcomers Yannick Malik and Kristian Bressum led the ETSU men's golf team in its spring opener as the final day of Battle at Briar's Creek concluded Tuesday at The Golf Club of Briar's Creek.For the tournament, Malik and Bressum both finished tied for 10th at 4-under-par 212. Malik strung together three straight rounds below par as he went 71-71-70, while Bressum – who started with a 4-under 68 in Monday's opener – carded back-to-back rounds of even-par 72 to finish off play in South Carolina. Over the two-day, 54-hole tournament, Malik registered 12 birdies and 34 pars, while Bressum totaled 10 birdies and 38 pars. Bressum, who had a flawless opening round with four birdies and 14 pars, put together a strong finish in Tuesday's finale as he birdied the final three holes to get back to even-par for the round.
Runner-Up Finish for Cline Leads Catamounts to Seventh Place
Paced by a career-best runner-up finish by freshman Chase Cline, the Western Carolina men's golf team rallied for a seventh-place finish at the Los Vaqueros Intercollegiate on Tuesday as play concluded at the par-72, 6,683-yard Iberostar Paraiso Golf Club.Cline posted a second-consecutive round of 2-under par 70 over the final 18 holes to advance four spots in the final finishing order, and the Catamounts carded the fourth-lowest team round on Tuesday to advance to another four positions after climbing three spots on Monday. All told, after the opening 18 holes, the Catamounts moved up seven positions over the final 36 holes to collect their third top-10 team finish of the 2024-25 season to open the spring portion of the schedule.
