SoCon Announces Men's Golfer of the Week
UNC Greensboro’s Dax Isbell Battles Wind, Course to Lead Spartans in Texas
SPARTANBURG, SC – UNC Greensboro senior Dax Isbell was named Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for events played between March 25-March 31.
Isbell (Cumming, GA / North Forsyth HS) paced the Spartans against a formidable field at the 2026 Maridoe Collegiate, hosted by North Texas at the Maridoe Golf Club in Carrolton, TX. The Spartans finished one stroke out of the top 10 in a tournament that included four top 20 teams and two teams ranked inside the top 10 nationally.
The 7,569-yard course (Par 72) proved challenging, with wind gusts between 31-35 miles per hour and a high temperature of 84 contributing to an average score of 77.28 over 225 individual rounds and an average of 78.01 over the final 18 holes Tuesday. Isbell finished in a tie for 25th overall, rising four spots on the final day to finish one stroke back of No. 58 Gaven Lane of Oklahoma State. He earned 38.48 NCAA points after shooting 76-76-77 for the event, beating the field average by more than a stroke in each of the last two rounds. Only two golfers finished the tournament below par, with No. 7 Oklahoma State winning the team title by 18 strokes over No. 9 Arizona State.
