SoCon Announces Men's Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, SC – UNC Greensboro junior Kelvin Hernandez was named Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for events played between February 18-February 24.

Hernandez (Caguas, Puerto Rico / The Palmas Academy) finished in a tie for seventh individually at the Dorado Beach Collegiate, played at the 7,192-yard (Par 72) Dorado Beach Resort & Club East course in Puerto Rico. After a first round 74, Hernandez responded with back-to-back rounds under par, shooting 4-under par combined over his final 36 holes. He sank five birdie putts in the second round and three more in the final round to finish only four strokes out of first place. Hernandez shot five strokes better than the field in the second round and four better than the field over the final 18 holes. The Golfer of the Week honor is Hernandez’ second in the past three weeks. His efforts powered the Spartans to a third-place team finish.

UNC Greensboro will return to the East Coast for its next outing, playing in the Sea Island Invitational at Sea Island Plantation Golf Course on March 9-10.
