SoCon Announces Men's Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, SC – Western Carolina redshirt sophomore Tyler Jones was named Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for tournaments held between January 28-February 3.

Jones (Jacksonville, NC / Jacksonville HS) was honored for the second time this season after winning the spring season opener. Jones carded a 66 in his final round at the 2026 Compadres Collegiate in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, to win by two strokes. The tournament was played on the 6,701-yard (Par 72) Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club course. Jones’ final round vaulted him from fifth place into the lead, with an eagle on the final hole breaking a late tie and delivering medalist honors.

After recording pars on the first three holes he played in the final round, Jones caught fire, sinking birdie putts over three of his next four holes. He overcame a bogey with two more birdies to pull into a tie for the lead, then pushed ahead for good with his eagle to close out the tournament.

Jones also eagled the final hole of his win at the JT Poston Invitational in his Catamount debut in September. He finished this week’s tournament with a team-best 15 birdies, led the field in Par 5 scoring, and helped Western Carolina move into a fifth-place finish in the team standings.
