SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Monday, the Southern Conference Football Players of the Week presented by Southern Recognition were awarded for all games played on Nov. 16. Samford quarterback Quincy Crittendon was named the Offensive Player of the Week, Furman defensive back Billy Lewis was named the Defensive Player of the Week and Western Carolina placekicker Christian Lowery was named the Special Teams Player of the Week. The awards are selected by the league office. &nbsp; OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Quincy Crittendon, Jr., QB, Samford, Decatur, Ala.Crittendon completed 34-of-50 of his pass attempts, finishing with a season-high 340 yards and a touchdown pass in Samford’s 36-13 win at then 19th-ranked Chattanooga. The junior also ran for a team-high 59 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown. The Decatur, Alabama, native’s 38-yard touchdown pass came in the second quarter and his 12-yard touchdown run came in the third quarter. Devontae Houston led the way for ETSU, rushing for 103 yards on 12 rushing attempts.<hr/><h3>Dickens leads Western Carolina to victory over VMI</h3>Western Carolina was overpowering on Saturday afternoon, collecting score after score in a lopsided 58-28 victory over VMI. The Catamounts jumped out to a 41-7 lead in the first half.Taron Dickens led the way for Western Carolina, throwing for 294 yards and two touchdowns. JOHNSON CITY TENN. – Furman scored a goal in the first four minutes of the contest as the fourth-seeded Paladins took down the&nbsp; No. 2 seed ETSU, 2-0, on Sunday in Johnson City, Tennessee, to claim the Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Championship.The win represents the Paladins’ 15th SoCon Men’s Soccer Championship, the first since 2018.With the win, Furman claims the SoCon’s automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship. The NCAA Selection Show will air on NCAA.com on Monday at 1 p.m.Christian Kraus scored the opening goal of the game, the eventual game-winning score, in the fourth minute to put Furman on the board. The forward found the bottom left corner of the net for the score, off an assist from Wilfer Bustamante.In the 70th minute of play, Caleb Johnson scored the Paladins’ second goal with an assist from Lloyd Wamu-Snell.The Paladins outshot the Buccaneers, 15-9, while both teams recorded five corner kicks and three saves.Tournament MOP Aaron Salinas played all 90 minutes of the game in the goal for the Paladins, leading the defense that kept ETSU scoreless.
