Wofford-Furman game suspended, will resume Thursday

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Wednesday’s Wofford-Furman contest at the Southern Conference Baseball Championship presented by Mountain Shore Properties has been suspended due to rain in the bottom of the third inning with the Terriers leading 8-6. The contest will resume Thursday at 3 p.m.

Thursday’s schedule will see No. 8 seed The Citadel take on No. 1 seed Mercer at 9 a.m. No. 4 VMI vs. No. 5 UNCG will follow at 12 p.m., with the completion of the Wofford-Furman game after that at 3. Two losers’ bracket games will follow to wrap up the day, with the loser of Thursday’s first two games squaring off at 5:30 p.m. and the loser of the Wofford-Furman game taking on No. 7 seed Western Carolina at 8:30 p.m.

The Terriers will own a two-run lead when halted game resumes, having stormed back from an early 6-0 deficit to take an 8-6 lead before the game was called with two on and two out in the bottom of the third.

Furman bolted out to a 6-0 lead in the first on the strength of a two-run double by Brandon Elmy and a two-run home run from Ryan Morse, but Wofford answered with two in the bottom half and took the lead with a 5-spot in the second, highlighted by RBI singles by Matt Ramsay and Conor Clancey. Wofford pushed across one more run in the third on Derek Hirsch’s bases-loaded walk to cap the scoring before the game was called.
