UNCG 4, Wake Forest 0
The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team upset the No. 13 Wake Forest Demon Deacons with a 4-0 victory on Tuesday night at UNCG Baseball Stadium. The Spartans, who are now 3-1 on the campaign, limited the Demon Deacons to just a pair of hits on the way to their second shutout win of the season. Southpaw sophomore Noah Chapman started on the mound for UNCG and pitched five brilliant shutout innings with just one hit and three walks allowed while striking out seven. Danny Thompson Jr. then came out in relief to start the sixth and pitched the remaining four innings also with one hit against while having two walks and seven strikeouts.
Western Carolina 10, USC Upstate 7
Western Carolina used a pair of three-run innings in the middle third of Tuesday's home-opener to rally back from an early deficit as the Catamounts claimed their first victory of the season with a 10-7 win over USC Upstate in nonconference play at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium. WCU overcame an early 3-1 deficit, tying the game with a two-spot in the home half of the third inning before surging to the lead for good with a three-run bottom of the fourth. The Catamounts stretched their advantage to 9-3 with a three-run sixth inning before surviving a four-run seventh by the Spartans.
Virginia Tech 8, ETSU 6
The ETSU baseball team slugged four home runs at Virginia Tech on Tuesday. Despite the power display by the Buccaneers, the Hokies rallied with a pair of runs in the seventh inning to win Tuesday's matchup, 8-6. The loss is ETSU's first of the season and moves its record to 3-1. ETSU outhit the Hokies on Tuesday, 14-8, to go along with those four home runs. Five different Buccaneer hitters recorded multi-hit performances on the day. Axel Melendez led the charge with four hits with one of those going over the fence for his second home run of the season. Grant Gallagher, Cooper Torres and Tristan Curless also hit homers against the Hokies. On the mound, Curless made his pitching debut for ETSU.
Charlotte 4, Wofford 2
The Wofford baseball team put up the first two runs of the ballgame Tuesday night at Russell C. King Field, but Charlotte scored four unanswered from there to claim a 4-2 win. The Terriers drop to 3-1 as the 49ers improve to 2-1. Sheldon Egger (0-1) made his Terrier debut and suffered the loss after surrendering three runs in 4.2 innings of work. He allowed five hits but struck out five and did not issue a walk. Kenny Michaels allowed one run in his 1.1 innings of work out of the bullpen, and Champ Davis tossed the final 3.0 frames with three punchouts to no hits, runs, or walks.
Jacksonville State 12, Samford 6
The Samford University baseball team dropped a 12-6 decision at in-state rival Jacksonville State Tuesday afternoon at Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium. With the loss, Samford fell to 3-1 on the young season. Jacksonville State improved its record to 4-1 with the win. Samford was led at the plate by Hayden Perry, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jeffrey Ince, Jake Souders, Angelo Prieto and Trey Higgins drove in a run each for the Bulldogs. Brooks Rice (0-1) pitched 2.0 innings, giving up five runs on five hits to take the loss on the mound for Samford.
