Samford 6, Wofford 2
The Samford University baseball team completed its Southern Conference series sweep of Wofford with a 6-2 victory Sunday afternoon at King Field. With the win, Samford improved its record to 17-15 overall and 4-2 in Southern Conference play. Wofford fell to 21-12 overall and 2-4 in league play. Samford was led in the win by Gus Gandy, going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and two RBI. Jackson Harris went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Parker McDonald homered, going 1-for-4 with an RBI. Jake Souders also drove in a run, going 1-for-4 at the plate. Mason Blasche (4-0) earned the win on the mound for Samford, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out five batters. Josh Leerssen pitched the final 3.0 innings, giving up just two hits to pick up his first save of the season.
The Wofford baseball team gave a late comeback push against Samford Sunday afternoon at Russell C. King Field, but the Bulldogs held firm for a 6-2 win. Wofford falls to 21-12 (2-4 SoCon) while Samford improves to 17-15 (4-2 SoCon). Kenny Michaels (3-1) got the starting nod for the Terriers, his first of the season and just the second of his career. Michaels surrendered four runs (three earned) on four hits with three strikeouts while taking the loss. Alec Bouchard tossed 4.0 innings out the bullpen with two runs allowed on three hits with five punchouts. Carter Rasmussen hurled the last 1.2 innings with no runs given up and just a hit allowed. He struck out one.
Western Michigan 6, The Citadel 0
Western Michigan scored in the game's first two runs with an RBI double from Rick Lucas and a SAC-fly RBI from Avery Thielman to make it 2-0 in the third inning. The game remained scoreless for both teams until the eighth inning, when the Broncos scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Lucas hit a two-run double to left, Thielman added an RBI single through the left side, and Connor Ostrander contributed an RBI double along the right field line to make the score 6-0 in the eighth.
