Bucs break program’s single season home run record but drop game two at Toledo, 7-6
The ETSU baseball team made some history on Saturday as it hit its 93rd and 94th home run as a team to break the program's single season program record set back in 2010. Despite the power displayed by the Bucs, Toledo rallied late to win Saturday's game against the Bucs by a score of 7-6. Saturday's loss moves ETSU's record to 29-12 this season.
Johnson Throws Complete Game, Bears Clinch Series Over UNCG
Senior right-hander Jeb Johnson threw his first career complete game on Saturday, leading the Bears to a 9-1 series-clinching victory over UNCG at OrthoGeorgia Park. Ely Brown (2-for-3) and Bradley Frye (2-for-5) had multi-hit days, while Titan Kamaka (2-for-3) homered and scored three runs to power the Bears at the plate. Johnson (4-3) threw a career-high 126 pitches to go the distance, striking out seven and limiting the Spartans to six hits and one walk. Rob Ready (1-6) took the loss for UNCG.
Baseball Falls in Second Game of Series at Mercer
The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team dropped a 9-1 contest to the Mercer Bears in the second game of three in a weekend series of The Southern Conference (SoCon) action on Saturday afternoon at OrthoGeorgia Park. Mercer grabbed the game's first run in the second inning after Zack Thompson walked with one out and later scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0. Eli Stephens then singled to right with one out to score Parker Lester from third. In the next at-bat, Ely Brown bunted a single back to the pitcher, which scored Titan Kamaka and made it 3-0.
Bulldogs Rally Late to Clinch Series Against VMI
The Bulldogs scored three runs in the eighth inning en route to a 4-2 win over VMI. The Bulldogs clinched the series over the Keydets. Garrett Dill put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth inning with an RBI single to third base, scoring Anthony Hausner and narrowing the lead to one. The Bulldogs tied the game at 2-2 with a bases-loaded RBI walk from Travis Elliott. Anthony Hausner broke the tie with an RBI single over third, scoring Lane Tobin to make it 3-2. The Bulldogs added their third run of the inning with a bases-loaded hit by pitch from Thomas Rollauer to give The Citadel a two-run lead over VMI. Yates Bland closed the door on the Keydets in the ninth inning, stranding one on base and giving the Bulldogs a 4-2 win.
Keydets falter despite Lloyd’s strong outing
VMI Baseball was on the wrong end of a late comeback as The Citadel took control of the series Saturday afternoon at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. The Keydets (25-19, 5-9 SoCon) lost 4-2 after an eighth-inning Bulldogs surge. VMI has dropped its last five games, four of which have been to Southern Conference teams.
Samford Baseball Drops Two To Western Carolina
The Samford University baseball team dropped a pair of games to Western Carolina Saturday at Joe Lee Griffin Field. Western Carolina took the first game, 4-1, and the second contest by a score of 8-2. With the losses, Samford fell to 22-20 overall and 8-6 in SoCon play. Western Carolina is 22-20 overall and 6-8 in league action.
Wofford Baseball Falls to High Point
The Wofford baseball team fell behind in the first inning to High Point Saturday evening at Williard Stadium and could not mount a comeback, dropping a 13-1 contest. The Terriers are 25-18 following the result as the Panthers improve to 28-14. Cullen Condon (2-3) took the loss as the starter for Wofford, pitching 1.1 innings with six runs (five earned) allowed. John Gray, Wes Estes, and Braden Hofmeyer all saw action out of the bullpen.
