SoCon Baseball Player, Pitcher of the Week Announced
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU first baseman Cameron Sisneros and Wofford right-hander Zac Cowan have been named the Southern Conference baseball player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all competition from May 6-12. The awards are selected by the league office.
Sisneros hit .471 (13-of-21) over a four-game span last week, recording four home runs and driving in 14 runs. The Littleton, Colorado, native tallied one hit in all four games and drove in three or more runs in three of the four contests. Sisneros homered twice on both Saturday and Sunday at Wofford - bringing his home run total to 21 on the season, tying him for third-most in a single season in ETSU baseball history. He matched a single-game program record with eight RBIs in Saturday's 15-8 win over the Terriers. With 14 RBIs for the week, Sisneros has driven in 78 runs this season, which is just six shy of the program record held by Paul Hoilman (2010).
Cowan, who claims the accolade for the third time this season, earned his seventh victory of the season by going the distance for the third time this season in a seven-inning, 11-1, victory over ETSU last Friday night (May 10). Cowan recorded six strikeouts and allowed just one run on three hits. He did not walk a batter. The Blythewood, South Carolina, native retired the first seven batters he faced before ETSU notched its first hit in the third inning. He allowed baserunners in only two of the seven frames, with each of the other five innings being 1-2-3 frames for the righty. Cowan is second in the conference with a 2.93 ERA.
ETSU (32-17, 13-8 SoCon) closes out the regular season by visiting Miami (OH) for a three-game nonconference series Thursday – Saturday (May 16-18). Wofford (33-16, 10-7) travels to Samford (33-18, 13-5) for a three-game conference series over the weekend.
