The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team picked up another win over the Wofford Terriers, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon to complete a three-game series sweep in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action at UNCG Baseball Stadium. It marks the second weekend sweep of the season for UNCG and the first in league play. With the win, the Spartans are alone at the top of the SoCon baseball standings at 7-2 in conference games.
Wofford Baseball Falls Late at UNCG
The Wofford baseball team was locked in a pitchers' duel early at UNCG Baseball Stadium Sunday afternoon, but the UNCG Spartans broke through with four runs scattered over the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to secure a 4-1 victory. The Terriers drop to 22-15 (2-7 SoCon) with the result as the Spartans improve to 17-18 (7-2 SoCon). Wofford used three total pitchers with Kenny Michaels (3-2) making the start but suffering a tough-luck loss. He tossed 5.0 innings, his longest outing as a starter.
Samford Baseball Takes Series Win With 8-5 Victory Over The Citadel
The Samford University baseball team earned another Southern Conference series win with an 8-5 victory over The Citadel Sunday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field. With the win, Samford improved its record to 20-16 overall and 6-3 in Southern Conference play. The Citadel fell to 19-17 overall and 4-5 in league play. Samford wins the series over The Citadel, two games to one. Mason Blasche (5-0) pitched 7.0 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out seven batters to earn the win on the mound for Samford.
Bulldogs Falter in Sunday’s Rubber Match Against Samford; Daniels Homers
The Citadel lost 8-5 in the rubber match of the SoCon series against Samford on Sunday afternoon. Phillips Daniels hit his first home run of the season. The Citadel scored five runs on ten hits, with TJ Anderson and Anthony Hausner recording multi-hit days. Anderson went 4-for-5 at the plate, hitting two doubles. This marks the second consecutive game in which the Bulldogs recorded four hits, following Travis Elliott's performance of four hits on April 12. Hausner went 3-for-4 with an RBI and recorded his third three-hit game of the season. Travis Elliott drove in two runs, increasing his season total to 25 RBIs, the highest of his career in a single season as a Bulldog.
Jacklin’s career day propels ETSU to a 11-0 win over Western Carolina
Senior outfielder Blake Jacklin hit a walk-off three-run home run as a part of a 5-for-5 day at the plate to go with three runs scored and three stolen bases to help propel the ETSU baseball team to a 11-0 run-rule victory over Western Carolina on Sunday afternoon at Thomas Stadium. Sunday's win boosts ETSU's overall record to 25-9 and improves its conference record to 6-3. In addition to Jacklin's big day, the Bucs had balance throughout their lineup as eight other Bucs reached base at least once in the win. Cody Miller matched Jacklin's three runs scored, while Tristan Curless, Grant Gallagher, Will Smoot and Joey Little all drove in runs.
Strong Pitching Powers Mercer Over Charleston Southern
Mercer pitching limited Charleston Southern to three hits to take game three of the series by a score of 4-3 on Sunday at CSU Ballpark. Ely Brown (2-for-4) doubled twice and scored two runs, while Brant Baughcum (2-for-5) and Titan Kamaka (2-for-4) had multi-hit efforts to lead the Bears at the plate. Jess Ackerman (4-2) was excellent, tossing a career-high seven innings with five strikeouts to pick up the win for Mercer before giving way to Andrew Garnett, who recorded the final six outs to pick up his first save of the season. Tait Robertson (1-4) took the loss for Charleston Southern.
VMI holds off Ohio to win series
VMI Baseball leaves the Buckeye State with a series win over Ohio Sunday afternoon at Bob Wren Stadium. The Keydets (23-14, 4-5 SoCon) took two of three from the Bobcats this weekend, capping off the series with a tight 4-3 victory. With the triumph, VMI has now won five one-run games, with four runs being the lowest scored in a victory this season.
