SoCon baseball player, pitcher of the week announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel shortstop Lane Tobin, and ETSU relief pitcher Brady Frederick have been named the Southern Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all competition from April 21-27. The awards are selected by the league office.

Tobin hit .538 this week, going 7-for-13 against Charleston Southern on Tuesday, and VMI in the weekend series. The Summerville, South Carolina, product scored one run on two hits with a stolen base in a 3-1 win against Charleston Southern. On Friday, April 25, he tallied one hit, one RBI, and one stolen base in a 5-0 shutout in game one of the weekend series. The next day, the shortstop registered one run on one hit in a 4-2 Bulldog victory. In the final game of the series, the senior scored one run on three hits, logged three RBIs and stole a base in an 11-8 win to complete the series sweep.

The Citadel (23-19, 7-5 SoCon) will travel to UNCG for the weekend series that is set to begin on Friday, May 2.

Frederick made two appearances for the Bucs this week, earning and win and a save. On Friday in game one against Toledo, the Knoxville, Tennessee product pitched 4.1 innings, striking out four and allowing two hits to earn the win in a 8-4 victory. In game three of the series, the sophomore pitched the final 3.2 innings, logging three strikeouts and allowing two hits. Frederick, who did not allow a run in either appearance, lowered his SoCon-leading ERA to 2.10.

ETSU (30-12, 8-4 SoCon) will host UNC Asheville on Tuesday, then travel to VMI for a weekend series starting on Friday.
