Running Mocs Wrap Up Georgia Tech Invitational Day One
Maddie Wheatcroft led the way in the women's 1500 meter run. She finished second in the second heat with a personal best time of 4:26.51. Lesley Boyd edged out her previous time, finishing 17th overall at 4:29.11. Leah Boyd was fourth in her heat and posted a personal record at 4:37.48 and Andrea Ellis topped her personal best time at 4:57.29.
Smith Breaks Furman's 48-Year-Old 800m Record At Wake Forest Invitational
Senior Matthew Smith broke Furman's 48-year old record in the men's 800m to lead the Paladin track and field teams Friday at the Wake Forest Invitational at Kentner Stadium. Smith posted a time of 1:46.75 to finish fourth in the event topping the former Paladin standard of 1:48.10, which was set by Phil Barker in 1977. His time ranks eighth in the East region and 11th nationally.

Junior Olivia Jones registered a time of 11:35.75 on the way to a 16th-place finish in the 3000m Steeplechase, while freshman Paula Sandoval crossed in 37th place in the 5000m Run to highlight her collegiate outdoor debut, to highlight action for the Mercer track & field team on Friday evening at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
