The Southern Conference Names Geoff Cabe Interim Commissioner
Veteran Administrator Joined the SoCon in 1988
SPARTANBURG, SC – The Southern Conference Council of Presidents has appointed Geoff Cabe as Interim Commissioner of the Southern Conference, effective immediately.
Cabe, a highly respected leader with extensive experience in conference administration and intercollegiate athletics, will provide leadership and continuity for the Southern Conference during the transition period as the Council of Presidents conducts a national search for the Conference's next Commissioner.
“We are grateful to Geoff for his willingness to once again step forward and serve the Southern Conference during this important transition,” said Dr. Kelli R. Brown, Chancellor of Western Carolina University and Chair of the Southern Conference Council of Presidents. “This marks the third time Geoff has answered the call to provide steady leadership for our conference, and his experience, institutional knowledge, and commitment to the Southern Conference make him uniquely qualified to guide us during this period. On behalf of the Council of Presidents, I want to thank Geoff for his continued dedication and service to our member institutions and student-athletes.”
The Council of Presidents has also formed a search committee to identify the Southern Conference's next Commissioner. The committee has begun its work and will oversee a comprehensive national search designed to attract a strong and diverse pool of candidates.
To assist with the process, the Southern Conference has retained Parker Executive Search, a nationally recognized firm with extensive experience conducting leadership searches in intercollegiate athletics. Parker Executive Search will partner with the search committee throughout the recruitment and evaluation process.
