SoCon announces ITK athletes of the week

Award winners set multiple personal records

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –  Wofford’s Zion Bennett and ETSU’s Micailah Cook have been named the men’s and women’s indoor track athletes of the week, respectively. Additionally, Samford's Bryce Davis and Chattanooga’s Halle Carden have been selected as the men’s and women’s indoor field athletes of the week, the conference office announced Wednesday. 

Selections were made by panels of the league’s track and field coaches and included all competitions from Feb. 4 - 10. 

Bennett placed first in the men’s 400m at the VMI Winter Relays, clocking a time of 47.69. The St. Andrew, Jamaica, native set both a personal and school record with the performance. The Terriers’ senior now leads the conference in the event. 

Cook ran an indoor personal-best 24.61 in the 200m, before adding another personal best in the 400m with a time of 55.92. The Sandston, Virginia, native also contributed a 55.71 split on the 4x400m relay, helping the squad to a fifth-place finish. 

Davis recorded a throw of 18.72m in the weight throw, taking over the conference lead by more than a meter. A Tallahassee, Florida, native, the performance at the South Alabama Invite also set a new personal best. 

Carden competed in the high jump at the UAB Green & Gold Invite, finishing second with a leap of 1.71m. The Mocs freshman broke a school record that had stood for more than 20 years, moving her into a tie for first in the SoCon.
