Interim Commissioner
The senior member of the Southern Conference staff, Geoff Cabe is in his 39th year as a member of the league’s staff in 2026-27, as he joined the conference in July 1988 as an intern in the media relations department. He was promoted to media relations director in 1991 and rose to the rank of assistant commissioner in 1991. In 1995, he assumed responsibility for overseeing the league’s championship events.
Cabe was named an associate commissioner in 1999 and senior associate commissioner in 2002. In his current role, he is responsible for many of the conference’s athletic competition functions, including developing the conference’s playing and television schedules for football and men's and women's basketball.
He also serves as the primary liaison with the league’s athletics directors and has served as the director of the conference’s men’s basketball championships for the past 20 years. Cabe has served as the interim commissioner on two previous occasions in his tenure with the league.
