The Southern Conference Executive Committee established the Commissioner's Medal during the 2004-05 academic year. A subset of the honor roll, the award recognizes those student athletes who participated in varsity sports at member institutions and posted a 3.80 grade point average or higher, were eligible the entire academic year, and were members of the final squad lists. The GPA standard was raised from 3.50 to 3.80 prior to the 2015-16 academic year.
