Bio

Former Georgia Southern women's tennis player Anita Buggins, who competed for the Eagles from 1994-98, was the SoCon Freshman of the Year in the spring of 1995, the league’s player of the year in both 1997 and 1998, and the SoCon Female Athlete of the Year in 1997-98.
 
A four-time All-SoCon selection in singles and a three-time all-conference pick in doubles, Buggins turned in a 56-11 career singles record and 56-9 doubles mark. More impressively, Buggins never lost a SoCon match, going 30-0 in both singles and doubles in league play in her career.
 
Buggins won SoCon singles and doubles championships at No. 2 in 1995 and 1996 and added singles and doubles championships at No. 1 in 1997, when she was named the SoCon Tournament Most Valuable Player. She helped the Eagles win SoCon tournament titles in 1995 and 1996 and regular-season titles in 1995, 1996 and 1998.
 
A GTE Academic All-District selection as a senior, Buggins was awarded a Mike Wood Foundation Graduate Scholarship in 1998.
 
She would go on to play professionally for nearly two years following graduation.
 
The Swindon, England, native was named to the SoCon Women’s 25th Anniversary Team in 2007-08 and to the 100th Anniversary Team in 2021. Buggins was inducted into Georgia Southern’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.
 
Buggins is the second Georgia Southern Eagle to be enshrined in the Southern Conference Hall of Fame, joining football standout Adrian Peterson, who was inducted in the inaugural class in 2009.

Buggins says:
