SoCon Unity Week | Jan. 17-22, 2022
The second annual SoCon Unity Week will feature a different theme each of the six days that will celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion and tell the stories of student-athletes, faculty and administration as the conference recognizes diversity across the league. This year, the league has dedicated all SoCon basketball games being played on January 22 as its first-ever “SoCon United Game.” The conference encourages the use of #SoConUnited on social media to follow along with and participate in the campaign. Although this is a one-week campaign, the task force encourages individuals to keep the conversation with peers going once the week is over.

Day 1 (Monday, Jan. 17): “We are #SoConUnited” (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day)
Showcase the support for student-athltes, administration and faculty through storytelling to foster inclusive environments. This day will focus on allyship and support throughout the conference, while also honoring the life and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This day will focus on allyship, support and community service & involvement.

Day 2 (Tuesday, Jan. 18): “Let's Talk About It”
Focusing on dialogue, reflection and education are important steps in showing unity and support. Posts will share the stories of student-athletes, coaches and administrators while providing an opportunity to learn about the importance of multiculturalism and unity.

Day 3 (Wednesday, Jan. 19): “Celebrating Your Identity”
Providing a platform for student-athletes to celebrate and talk about who they are beyond the sport. “Celebrating Your Identity,” will allow for them to share their experiences and take pride in who they are. We encourage participants to think beyond race and include the whole spectrum of diversity (gender, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, etc.).
Day 4 (Thursday, Jan. 20): “Taking Steps Forward”
Showcase the power of student-athletes/coaches/adminstrators' platforms to make a difference and take actionable steps to promote diversity and inclusion.
Day 5 (Friday, Jan. 21): “Breaking the Glass Ceiling”
The conference would like to recognize the trailblazing women who paved the way for those who came after them. “Breaking The Glass Ceiling,” will highlight women in sports and their accomplishments.
Day 6 (Saturday, Jan. 22): “SoCon United Game”
To end the week, the SoCon will work to raise awareness and increase brand visibility by having SoCon Basketball teams wear SoConUnited T-Shirts during warmups on this date along with in-game marketing efforts.
