Men's soccer players of the week announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference named its men’s soccer players of the week Tuesday for games played Sept. 17-23. ETSU forward Hauk Andreas Fossen and goalkeeper Josh Perryman were honored as the league’s offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively.

 

ETSU was a perfect 2-0-0 last week, with wins over Presbyterian and High Point. The Bucs kicked off the week with a 3-0 defeat of the Blue Hose before taking down High Point 2-0 on Saturday.

 

Fossen, a freshman from Moely, Norway, netted a brace in the 2-0 win against High Point on Saturday. The two goals were his third and fourth of the season, which tied the school record for goals by a freshman. Fossen’s first goal came in the fifth minute after a saved shot rebounded off the forward and into the net. He notched his second goal of the game in the 21st minute as he headed home a free kick from teammate Kieran Richards to seal the victory.

 

Perryman, a redshirt sophomore from Sheffield, England, did not allow a single goal in two wins last week. The ETSU netminder made two of his four saves in Tuesday’s win over Presbyterian with an incredible double save following a penalty kick. His effort maintained a clean sheet and earned a spot on SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays from the day. Perryman recorded four more saves in Saturday’s shutout win over High Point.

 

The Bucs return to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 28, as they host Georgia State at 7 p.m.

 

 

Also nominated for offensive player of the week: Niccolo Dagnoni (Belmont), Kevin Kim (Mercer) and Faisal Almubaslat (UNCG).

Also nominated for defensive player of the week: Nicolo Dini (Belmont) and Casey Penland (UNCG).
