Regan Ward named student-athlete of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina women’s soccer player Regan Ward has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition between Sept. 11-17.

Ward was a key contributor on the field, scoring all three goals for Western Carolina in a pair of wins. She netted back-to-back game-winning goals, with the first coming in a 2-1 defeat of High Point on Thursday and the other in a 1-0 shutout win over Radford on Sunday. The Strongsville, Ohio, native leads the team with four goals on the season, which is also a new career high for the junior. Her goal against Radford was only the fourth allowed by the Highlanders this season, who entered the contest having given up just three goals in seven games.

An integrated health science major, Ward holds a 3.863 grade point average.

Ward and the Catamounts return to action on Wednesday as they travel to UNC Asheville for a nonconference match at 3:30 p.m.

Also nominated for SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week: Nicolo Dini (Belmont men’s soccer), Jack Rhea (ETSU men’s golf), Natalie Srinivasan (Furman women’s golf), Megan Kaufman (Chattanooga volleyball) and Riley Coonan (Wofford volleyball).
