SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Carol Pyon has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from April 3-9. The selection is made by the league office.
The Macon, Georgia, native finished first out of 71 participants at the Brickyard Collegiate this week, defeating No. 90 Jennifer Zhou of North Carolina and No. 71 Elizabeth Moon of UCF in earning her first collegiate tournament win. She shot a 4-under-par 68 in the first round and a 70 in the second round, bringing her total to 138 (-6) and marking her second straight top-10 finish to end the regular season. Her first-round 68 was her collegiate-low single-round score and she tallied 10 birdies over the 36 holes played. The freshman also helped lead Mercer to a first-place finish out of 13 participants.
The Bears turn their attention to the Southern Conference Championship, slated for April 14-16 at Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Also nominated: Monica San Juan (Chattanooga), Brianna Plummer (Western Carolina) and Becca Earl (Wofford).
