Wooten named women's golfer of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina’s Amy Wooten has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from Feb. 10- 26. The selection is made by the league office.

The freshman posted a career-best, third-place finish in Western Carolina’s spring opening tournament as well the 69 she carded in the first round being a career low for her collegiate career. She fired a school record 54-hole score of 3-under par, 213, breaking Western Carolina’s 16-year old record held by WCU Athletics Hall of Famer Brandy Andersen. The Clinton, North Carolina, native tied for first in the tournament field with 13 birdies, adding 34 toal pars over the 54-hole event to give Western Carolina its first top 10 individual finisher since April of 2017.

The Catamounts are set to compete in the Clover Cup from March 15 – March 17.

Also nominated: Sarah Smith (The Citadel), Kirsty Beckwith (Chattanooga), Haylee Harford (Furman), Payton Schanen (Mercer), Lina Settelmayer (Wofford) and Lexie Kershaw (UNCG).
