SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford guard Chloe Wanink has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Feb. 12-18. The award is selected by the league office.
Wanink paced the Terriers, now 6-5 in SoCon play, past ETSU and Chattanooga. The Cameron, Wisconsin, native led all scorers with 22 points in the 77-74 win over ETSU on Thursday. She played 37 minutes and went 9-of-28 from the floor. Two days later, Wanink led the Terriers with 20 points and shot 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from the field. She was 3-of-5 from 3-point range and added three assists and a steal in Wofford’s first win against Chattanooga since Feb. 25, 1999.
Wanink, who averaged 21.0 points per game on the week, leads the league with 21.6 points per game in conference play. The redshirt junior is shooting 42.9 percent from 3-point range, second among conference players, and averages 35.7 minutes per contest, third-best. The player of the week nod is the third of the season for Wanink and fourth of her career.
Wofford (14-12) hosts Furman on Saturday, Feb. 23, in the final game of a three-game homestand and the final home game of the season for the Terriers, who are 11-1 at home and have won three in a row and four of the last five heading into the contest. Furman (16-10) is second in the conference at 8-3 and has won four in a row, last falling to league-leading Mercer on Feb. 2.
