SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNC Greensboro’s Jonathan Brightwell has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from Oct. 2-8. The selection is made by the league office.

The weekly award is Brightwell’s third of the season and the fifth of his career, matching the league record. The SoCon began naming fall winners this year.

Brightwell, who has won the award after each of his three fall tournaments, earned his second consecutive win and third straight top-five finish with a 13-under-par 203 at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate over the weekend. The Charlotte, North Carolina, senior turned in a 4-under 68 Saturday and followed that with an 8-under 64 in the second round to carry a four-stroke lead into the third round. Brightwell closed his tournament with a 1-under 71 Sunday, sinking a lengthy birdie putt on the 18th hole to claim the one-stroke win.

The Spartans tied for third with Furman at the 15-team tournament, which included five teams ranked in top 100 of this week’s Golfweek rankings. Brightwell, ranked eighth nationally by Golfweek, topped 86 other golfers.

UNCG is back in action at the Crooked Stick Invitational at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana, on Oct. 14-15.
