SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford guard Chloe Wanink has been named the Southern Conference player of the week for games played Jan. 8-14. The award is selected by the league office.
Wanink’s nod is her second of the season after taking home honors in the opening week of play. The redshirt junior averaged 34.0 points per game and helped Wofford to a 2-0 start in conference action, propelling the Terriers past Western Carolina and UNCG.
Wanink netted 40 points, a Wofford record for points in a game and conference high this season, in the 91-65 win over Western Carolina on Jan. 10. She did so in just 25 minutes, shooting 68 percent from the field (17-of-25) and 57.1 percent from 3-point range (4-of-7). Wanink also pulled down five rebounds in the win.
Two days later, the native of Cameron, Wisconsin, scored a game-high 28 points on 9-of-12 shooting (75 percent) and again went 4-of-7 from deep as the Terriers downed UNCG 93-66. She was also 6-of-8 from the free-throw line and grabbed three rebounds.
After her monster weekend, Wanink now leads the conference in scoring, averaging 19.5 points per game. Her 40.6 percent from 3-point range is also a league best.
Wanink and the Terriers (10-7, 2-0) travel to Chattanooga (6-10, 1-0) on Jan. 17 and ETSU (2-15, 0-1) on Jan. 19.
