HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Furman's Reona Hirai won individual medalist honors at the Women's Eastern Golf Amateur Championship Thursday at the Palmetto Hall Plantation's Robert Cupp course in Hilton Head, S.C.

Hirai, a recent graduate from Summerville, S.C., carded rounds of 75 and 67 to hold the 36 hole lead then posted  a one-over 71 to take a four-stroke win with a three-round, 54-hole total of 213.  Courtney McKin placed second at 217, followed by Maggie Ashmore of Augusta University in third (220).

The 2018 Southern Conference individual champion, Hirai earned her third-career All-SoCon citation in 2018.  She helped the seventh-ranked Paladins to their fourth-straight league title and an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Championships.

"I am so proud of Reona for winning this prestigious event," said Furman head coach Jeff Hull.  "She battled through an injury as she always has and played great golf. It was truly a great way to finish off her stellar golf career."
