SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Erica Haynes-Overton has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for games played Feb. 13-19, the conference announced Tuesday. The award is the second of the season for Haynes-Overton and including Tianna Tarter’s two awards, the fourth of the season for the Bucs.

Haynes-Overton and the Bucs finished the week 2-0 after topping Wofford and Furman at home, improving their record to 17-10 overall and 10-2 in conference play. In the two games last week, the Nashville, Tennessee, native averaged 16.0 points per game, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 steals and shot 51.9 percent from the field.

The freshman started the week with her third career double-double, tallying 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Wofford on Feb. 15. Haynes-Overton finished just shy of a triple-double, recording seven steals while dishing out six assists. The 5-5 guard also had two blocked shots in the game.

In the contest with Furman, Haynes-Overton native poured in a game-high 19 points, brought down three boards and chipped in two steals, one block and one assist in 28 minutes of action. Of the 10 points the Bucs scored in the first quarter, Haynes-Overton had eight of them.

Haynes-Overton currently leads the conference and ranks fifth in Division I in steals with 96 and is fifth in scoring with 14.5 points per game. She also ranks in the top 15 in the conference in three other categories.
