Soliman named women's basketball player of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG guard Nadine Soliman has been named the Southern Conference player of the week for games played Dec. 11-17 after averaging 18.3 points and 9.0 rebounds on the week. The award is selected by the league office.

The junior scored 13 points and finished with nine rebounds, both team highs, in a 66-57 loss to North Carolina Central on Dec. 12. Two days later, the native of Cairo, Egypt, scored a game-high 28 points and added a game-high 12 rebounds in an 83-62 loss at ACC foe North Carolina. Soliman went 9-of-17 from the floor, including 6-of-11 from 3-point range, and added three assists and two steals in 37 minutes of action.

 

She followed up that performance with a game-high 14 points, including the game-winning 3 as time expired, in a 48-45 win over Liberty on Dec. 16, UNCG’s sixth straight home victory. She finished with six rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal.

 

The preseason all-conference selection is averaging a conference-best 20.2 points per game. She also leads the conference in rebounding (8.0 per game), 3s made (3.1 per game) and defensive rebounds (6.2 per game). Additionally, she is in the top10 in field-goal percentage, free-throw percentage, steals, offensive rebounds and minutes played.

 

Soliman and the Spartans take on Eastern Michigan on Dec. 20 and Seton Hall on Dec. 21 as part of the West Palm Beach Invitational in West Palm Beach, Florida.
