OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – For the second consecutive season, a Mercer Women’s Basketball player has been selected as a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award. KeKe Calloway is one of only 30 women’s basketball student-athletes in NCAA Division I to be named a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award. Calloway is also the lone Southern Conference representative on the women’s side, joining Sydni Means as back-to-back Mercer competitors on the list.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School^®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as a senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

Calloway is off to a career-best start, averaging 19.4 points per game through the first seven games. Tasked with running the offense, Calloway is averaging 4.7 assists per contest and is already 12 assists shy of tying her career-high in a single season. The Georgia native has also pulled down 5.1 rebounds per contest. Calloway has eclipsed double digits in six of Mercer’s seven games, including back-to-back 30-point outings in wins over Georgia Southern and Florida.

The candidate class will be narrowed to 10 finalists in February, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four C’s of community, classroom, character and competition.
