SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga sophomore Monica San Juan has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 22-28. The selection is made by the league office.

San Juan tied for 23rd at the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate in Kennesaw, Georgia, on Monday and Tuesday, shooting a 7-over-par 223. After opening with a 2-over 74 and a 5-over 75, the Pamplona, Spain, native turned in an even-par 72 Tuesday to jump 25 spots in the standings.

San Juan tied No. 59 Michaela Finn of Kent State and finished two strokes better than No. 49 Gabby Barker of Texas Tech. Overall, there were six top-100 golfers in the 80-player field. Chattanooga finished 13th in the 14-team field, which included five teams ranked in the top 50 and two in the top 25.

The weekly award is the first of San Juan’s career.

All five SoCon weekly honors awarded this season have gone to sophomores, each of whom was named to the league’s all-freshman team last year.

Chattanooga resumes action at the Web.com Intercollegiate at the Marsh Landing Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, on Monday and Tuesday.
