SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina sophomore guard Raziyah Farrington has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 31 through Feb. 6, the conference announced Tuesday.

Farrington led a Catamount squad to their first two conference victories of the season with consecutive wins over Furman and Wofford last week after WCU went 0-7 to open conference play. The sophomore guard averaged 20.0 points and 31.0 minutes played off the bench, and shot 57.1 percent (12-21) from the field and behind the arc (4-7).

In Western Carolina’s 75-72 overtime win over Furman on Thursday, Farrington tied a career-high with 24 points, also a 2016-17 season-high, on 8-of-11 shots from the field to shoot a scorching 72.7 percent and was also 2-of-2 from behind the arc.

The Chapel Hill, North Carolina, native led the Catamounts in scoring for the second straight game after scoring 16 points while shooting 40 percent (4-10) from the field in WCU’s 69-66 win over Wofford on Saturday. With the score 67-66 in favor of the Catamounts late in the fourth quarter, Farrington hit two crucial free-throws to extend WCU’s lead to 69-66 before going on to win its second consecutive SoCon contest, a feat the Catamounts had not accomplished since upending Wofford (1/25/16) and UNCG (1/30/16) last season.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included: Raven Dean (ETSU), Kahlia Lawrence (Mercer), Kassidy Blevins (Samford), Chelsey Shumpert (Chattanooga) and Grayson Pinholster (Wofford).
