GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman sophomore Alice Chen was named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association’s (WGCA) Division I All-Region Team for the 2015-16, as announced Wedneday. The All-Region teams are based on the top ten finishers and ties at each of the NCAA Regional Championships.

The 2016 SoCon Co-Player of the Year, Chen, a native of Princeton, N.J., tied for sixth place with a score of 72-70-71=213 at the NCAA Bryan Regional, helping the Paladins to a fourth-place finish and a berth in the 2016 NCAA Championships, the program’s first since 2008.

Chen leads Furman with a 73.0 stroke average over 27 rounds this season, the second-best season stroke average in the history of the Paladin program. A 2016 All-SoCon selection, she tied for first place among the individuals at the league championship last month before falling in a playoff. Chen tied her career low with a 68 in the second round of the Yale Intercollegiate and in the final round of the Clemson Invitational, finished second at the Clemson Invitational, and has placed among the top five in five of nine tournaments this season and among the top 10 in seven competitions. The 2015 SoCon Freshman of the Year, Chen also earned a spot on the all-conference team last season.

“Alice has been a clutch player all spring, so it was no surprise that she would lead our team at regionals,” said Furman head coach Kelley Hester. “She was our top performer in five of our six tournaments this spring, and I look forward to seeing her, as well as the rest of our team, competing with the best players in the country this week at the NCAA Championship.”

The Paladins are making their 17th appearance at the NCAA Championship, which begins on Friday at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.
